Specal Events:
Shepard Schools offers a variety of special events including assemblies such as Meet Musicians, Journey to Africa through Dance, Mr. Fish and the Magic of Physics, Caryn Lin and her Electric Violin, Modern Shakespeare Players. Guest speakers and performers include: Michael Fowlin, Olympian Joetta Clark-Diggs, and author Jay Kumar.
Students at Shepard Schools are invited to participate annually in a number unique educational experiences including:
The Morris County Arts Festival (County College of Morris)
Students are able to enter samples of their art work for a county-wide student art exhibit held each spring. The festival also offers workshops both musical and dramatic performances..
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Festival
Shepard students work with members of the NJSO Education Department to explore themes in classical music. Orchestra musicians perform at Shepard and students are invited to attend a performance of the NJSO at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.
The Diversity Council of Kean University
Shepard students are able to participate in youth leadership training under the direction of the Diversity Council at Kean University. Our students are also invited to participate in their Annual Youth Conference held at Kean University. Students are also able to attend various performances offered by the Diversity Council.
Additional Level Trips include: a NJ Nets’ game, a NJ Devils’ game, a Somerset Patriot game, Broadway plays and Holiday Specials, along with fishing and bowling trips. Students have attended have performances at the State Theatre in New Brunswick and the Community Theater in Morristown. Past performances have included: “Bowfire”, “Stomp”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Romeo and Juliet” and “Anne Frank”.
As part of the curriculum offered at Shepard Schools, students visit the Liberty Science Center, The Museum of Early Crafts and Trades, The Ellis Island Museum, and the Delaware Water Gap.
Students have an annual SCIENCE FAIR along with a “POETRY OUT LOUD” experience in literature. Students are able to participate in musical and dramatic productions that include: WINTER and SPRING CONCERTS, Academy TALENT SHOW, and our SPRING DRAMA PRODUCTION. Students always enjoy our annual Student-Faculty Volleyball and Basketball Games.
